Assignment_<< MainPage Assignment for Oleg Oberemko and Richard JenkinsIDENTITY: A CRITICAL BIBLIOGRAPHYPrepare a critical bibliography of the literature relating to identity and identification. This should be in two sections: You should begin with books and articles with which you are already familiar. Having covered those, you should search the literature since 1990 - perhaps using a search tool such as Google Advanced Scholar - and choose items to add to each section. Please cover publications in Russian, English, and any other languages with which you may be familiar. The minimum number of publications you should include is 10. Sections (1) and (2) should each be organised alphabetically. For each entry you should give the name of the author(s), the title, and the place and year of publication (in the case of a book or a book chapter), or article title, journal title, volume, year of publication and page numbers (in the case of a journal article). Here are examples of the suggested format: Books:Cornell, S. and Hartmann, D. (1999) Ethnicity and Race: Making Identities in a Changing World, Thousand Oaks: Pine Forge. Edited books:du Gay, P, Evans, J. and Redman, P. (eds.) (2000) Identity: A Reader, London: Sage. Chapters in edited books:Barth, F. (1994) 'Enduring and emerging issues in the analysis of ethnicity', in H. Vermeulen and C. Govers (eds.) The Anthropology of Ethnicity: Beyond Ethnic 'Groups and Boundaries', Amsterdam : Het Spinhuis. Journal articles:Brubaker, R. and Cooper, F. (2000) 'Beyond "identity" ', Theory and Society, vol. 29: 1-47. Underneath, you should write at least 200 words, summarising the contents and argument of the publication, highlighting its strengths, and assessing critically its weaknesses. In order that the assessment of this assignment can be split evenly between Oleg and Richard it is imperative that as many of you as possible should write in English. Bibliographies will be assessed according to three criteria: number of publications covered, their relevance to the theme of identification, and the critical judgements displayed in the summaries. The date for final submissions, to Novosibirsk, is Friday, December 9th. |
